PRICE DROP

1974 Alfa Romeo Spider 5 speed manual transmission with only 25,000 miles.
Original a 1979 Spider that has been backdated to 1974.
Warning! If you don’t like attention, this car is not for you.

Appearance:
It was repainted in 2008 with the factory correct white and is holding up very well. (There are a couple dings and blemishes but that is to be expected with a car this fun to drive.) The car is completely original, even the frame for the convertible is original. Still has the original spare as well as tool set. The canvas top and the leather on the seats was replaced within the year.

Mechanics:
Engine pulls very strong and the transmission shifts well. No synchromesh problems when shifting in and out of 2nd gear. Everything works the way they should. Radiator, fan blades, intake, spark plugs and brand new bilstein front shocks. Original CMR wheels and new tires. Car has been Californian all its life, so there is no rust.

If interested please call/text Tristan at show contact info
I strongly urge you to come and see it in person.

1991 Alfa Romeo SZ GT

1991 ALFA ROMEO SZ (Sprint Zagato) GT Coupe
mileage: 45,113
cylinders: 6 cylinders
drive: rwd
fuel: gas
paint color: red
title status: clean
transmission: manual

2016-08-07 02:24pm
$59990

1991 ALFA ROMEO SZ (Sprint Zagato) (ECC-058C). Very limited edition collectable Alfa, as only 1036 SZ coupes were made. These V6 powered GT coupes were sold only in Europe. Created as a halo car for Alfa, overall performance/value ratio compared favorably with period Ferrari 348 model. Also known as Il Mostro in Italy, and revered as one of the most exotic Alfa Romeos produced in the modern age.

The Alfa Sprint Zagato was unveiled as a concept show car, the ES 30, at the 1989 Geneva automobile show. Reception was very positive and the production version debuted later that year. The SZ was a very significant flagship car for Alfa Romeo, developed as a high performance GT with a unique advanced styling featuring composite body panels, it was based on the chassis of the Alfa Romeo 75 model (Milano in the US market).

Styling was primarily done in house at Alfa, and production was sourced at the Zagato works in Terrazzano di Rho near the Alfa factory in Arese. Interestingly, the SZ was one of the first applications of the CAD process to automobile design. The SZ was envisioned as an experimental coupé and a return to Alfa Romeo’s legendary sporting image. It was also to be a symbol of pure sports car design without compromise. The production car was very true to these ideals and to the legacy of the extreme coupés that distinguish Alfa’s history and relationship with Zagato : the 1900 SSZ 1954, the Giulietta SZ (Sprint Zagato) 1960, the Alfa Giulia TZ and TZ2 and the 2600 SZ 1965, Junior Z and Alfa Z6.

The powertrain of the SZ features an all alloy 3-liter Alfa Romeo V6 and a 5-speed transaxle. The rev happy Alfa V6 produces 207 HP and is a joy to experience. The compact SZ is 160” long, only 51.6” tall and sits on a wheelbase of 98.8”. Curb weight is listed at 2,769 lbs. Performance is very strong with 0-60 mph in about 7.0 seconds and a top speed of over 150 mph.

The SZ featured some unique technical details. Handling is outstanding, as the chassis was tuned by Giorgio Pianta, engineer with Abrath racing

and Alfa Corse, and team manager of the Fiat and Lancia rally teams. Many suspension components were taken directly from the Alfa 75 IMSA racer. Weight distribution is near the ideal 50/50 front / rear. Hydraulic dampers were made by Koni and offer a feature to raise the car by 50 mm for speed bump clearance, as the static ground clearance is very low. The front suspension is via torsion bars and the rear a De Dion tube with inboard rear brake discs. This combination produced outstanding qualities and the SZ can sustain over 1.1 G in cornering on road tires, and up to 1.4 G with race rubber. This remains excellent performance even by today’s standards.

The interior is entirely bespoke to the SZ and offers very sporting accommodations for two in well bolstered bucket seats. There is a definite “race car” ambience and emphasis on functionality rather than luxury, but the SZ is still a very comfortable GT. One nice feature is the considerable and useful luggage space under the rear hatchback.

Overall the SZ offers a unique combination of daring style, outstanding handling, GT accommodations and lively performance.

This incredible example was a recent find that we have just imported. Originally sold in Europe, this SZ was purchased by a Japanese collector. We discovered it in Japan and just brought it to the US.

The SZ has 45K original miles and is is very good condition.

There have been some minor modifications and the car is not 100% stock. These include hood pins, Sparco racing pedals, a Kenwood audio system and speakers.

Original paint and interior show some patina and wear. Original leather upholstery has surface cracks and a few worn areas. Original paintwork shows some stone chips, minor scratches and touch ups here and there.

Mechanically sound and recently serviced with timing belt replacement earlier this year at 43K miles. Starts, runs and drives very well. No issues, no problems with running gear.

A very original, low mileage SZ in quite presentable condition. Can be driven and enjoyed now, or used as a solid base for a straight forward and relatively simple 100 point restoration.

Please note this car cannot be registered in California. It will be sold with a valid Nevada title and plates.

Price plus tax and DMV fees.

In the ride-sharing age of Uber, there is a wide range of available options for a variety of cars. There is UberX, UberXL, UberLux, UberSelect, UberBLACK, UberPOOL, and UberWho-knows-what-else.  But there is one niche that Uber hasn’t yet capitalized on: Uber Classic.

Despite having tested the viability of a vintage Uber in France, there is no indication that Uber will bring a service like that to the U.S. yet. Since we already shared what cars would be best for plain jane Uber, Burbbble has taken the liberty to compile a list of potential candidate cars should Uber ever decide to consider classic cars. Here is our list. What would you bring?

Alfa Romeos are Machines of Finesse

2 Alfa Romeo was a bit of an oddball make in 1960s America. In the era of muscle cars with four times the displacement of today’s economy cars, Alfas had tiny 1.3-liter, 4-cylinder engines. Their secret wasn’t about sheer power, but sheer finesse. This week’s Petrolicious video takes us through a family of Alfa lovers […]

FCA revises business plan: Diesel Wrangler and Alfa specialty cars on the horizon

::cck::98
::/introtext::

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles release a revised version of their 2014 business plan today. It began with a curious quote from Mark Twain: “The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.” Not sure exactly how that fits into the context of Fiat Chrysler changing their business plan, but I like it. You stay weird, FCA. The changes to their business plan are as follows:

In general, FCA noted how well received the Ferrari IPO was this October as well as how strong the Jeep brand was performing around the world, more than expected. But the automaker did admit to some fallbacks, especially in the Chinese market with the Maserati and Alfa Romeo brands.

Alfa Romeo and Maserati did not perform as well as expected in 2015. As such, FCA have taken a second look and re-assessed their plans for those brands. They will combine the brands’ dealerships in China, and reign in R&D. However, FCA is committed to the brands’ success. Alfa Romeo will launch a new utility vehicle in 2016 or 2017, and between 2017 and 2020 will launch a new full sized sedan, two new utility vehicles, two “specialty” vehicles, and a hatchback. These will add to their current line up of the 4C, 4C Spider, Giulia, Giulietta, and Mito. (I didn’t realize they were still making the Giulietta and Mito. Can’t find ‘em here in the U.S., so they’re as good as non-existent to me.)

The Jeep and Ram brands were in high demand in the 2015 year, and as such, FCA will introduce a new action plan to capitalize on the brands’ popularity. They also mentioned plans for a future Grand Wagoneer(!) and Wrangler Pickup(!) models.

FCA also emphasized their commitment to regulatory compliance with market emissions laws. “Mild hybrid” models were mentioned for Ram and Jeep, with a specific mention of a Wrangler hybrid. The Wrangler will also be getting a diesel engine.

Whatever the case may be, there is sure to be some interesting cars coming from FCA within the next few years, so we will have that to look forward to. Let’s hope that the “specialty” cars coming from Alfa Romeo are going to be affordable, fun, performance-oriented cars. Are you making us a new GTV, Sergio? Perhaps a new Spider? Whatever you make, just make it nutty and make it available in the U.S. I know I would buy that stuff.
