Disney Vacation Scenario

::cck::1000

Summer is officially here and parents all over the country are getting ready to take their kids to The Happiest Place on Earth. A plot of land so magical it will make a many hard earned monies disappear. So unforgettable that provided pictures will cost $10 and a souvenir will take another $40. A place where the same McDonalds cheeseburger meal two miles away costs $5 less. Of course I am referring to the one and only (sort of), gator-infested Walt Disney World.

We were wondering if you can buy an equally memorable summer car for the family that is as fun as Space mountain for the same money as a four day/four night Disney World vacation for a family of four.

According to a study done by hipmonk.com the average cost of a Disney World experience is $4,954.

Rules: Must find a car with the asking price or recently sold price of $4,954 or less

Must be unique/special enough to make memories for the kids

Must be able to fit two adults and two small children

$4,200

1996 Volvo 850R Wagon

Runs great. Needs nothing. Wants some things. Daily driven. Approx 200k miles.

New (rebuilt Volvo OEM) axles and front spring seats / new bump stops and sleeves less than 1k ago $700

New obx strut tower brace

New IPD 3″ downpipe and exhaust, PCV system, brake lines and used good condition turbo less than 5-10k ago.

Timing belt done 50k ago.

Never tuned, always stock boost levels, no major mods except exhaust.

Tires, Brakes, wheels all good. HID headlights provide excellent visibility

Car handles and drives beautifully.

Car wants:

Odometer repair kit, mileage is stuck at 187k I’m guess it’s still under 200k since it stopped; any Volvo 850 odometer reading could be a lie due to this common problem.

Ebrake cable and shoes, currently no ebrake but automatic “park” has worked fine for me.

Vinyl wrap or paint on the hood/roof due to clear coat peeling (been looking for a good condition black 850 hood just no luck yet)

Shift lock sensor, sometimes you need to use the “shift lock override” button to get out of park (common problem)

Air conditioning service, probably the big job but try a recharge first.

Good car, has some rattles and squeaks and blemishes you’d expect from a 20 yr old Volvo. I’d love to keep it but am interested in finding an AWD Volvo for my daily instead.

$4200 takes it, the good and the bad. Non negotiable. Any less and I just won’t sell it.
