Summer is officially here and parents all over the country are getting ready to take their kids to The Happiest Place on Earth. A plot of land so magical it will make a many hard earned monies disappear. So unforgettable that provided pictures will cost $10 and a souvenir will take another $40. A place where the same McDonalds cheeseburger meal two miles away costs $5 less. Of course I am referring to the one and only (sort of), gator-infested Walt Disney World.
We were wondering if you can buy an equally memorable summer car for the family that is as fun as Space mountain for the same money as a four day/four night Disney World vacation for a family of four.
According to a study done by hipmonk.com the average cost of a Disney World experience is $4,954.
Rules: Must find a car with the asking price or recently sold price of $4,954 or less
Must be unique/special enough to make memories for the kids
Must be able to fit two adults and two small children

Runs great. Needs nothing. Wants some things. Daily driven. Approx 200k miles.
New (rebuilt Volvo OEM) axles and front spring seats / new bump stops and sleeves less than 1k ago $700
New obx strut tower brace
New IPD 3″ downpipe and exhaust, PCV system, brake lines and used good condition turbo less than 5-10k ago.
Timing belt done 50k ago.
Never tuned, always stock boost levels, no major mods except exhaust.
Tires, Brakes, wheels all good. HID headlights provide excellent visibility
Car handles and drives beautifully.
Car wants:
Odometer repair kit, mileage is stuck at 187k I’m guess it’s still under 200k since it stopped; any Volvo 850 odometer reading could be a lie due to this common problem.
Ebrake cable and shoes, currently no ebrake but automatic “park” has worked fine for me.
Vinyl wrap or paint on the hood/roof due to clear coat peeling (been looking for a good condition black 850 hood just no luck yet)
Shift lock sensor, sometimes you need to use the “shift lock override” button to get out of park (common problem)
Air conditioning service, probably the big job but try a recharge first.
Good car, has some rattles and squeaks and blemishes you’d expect from a 20 yr old Volvo. I’d love to keep it but am interested in finding an AWD Volvo for my daily instead.
$4200 takes it, the good and the bad. Non negotiable. Any less and I just won’t sell it.

The 1980s were a dark time. I’m not sure if automotive designers were too busy looking for acid (to wash their jeans with), but the vast majority of vehicles for sale in the 80s are not going to end up on many short lists for best looking cars of all time.
Maybe they fired all their designers, bought a protractor, and spent the rest of the money on seat belts and crash-test dummies
It can be difficult to imagine when looking at the new 40 concepts from Volvo, but the Swedish car company was not immune to the ugly-pandemic (much like the Uggdemic of the late 2000s). In fact, they had such a hard time shaking the uglies that they made crap looking cars well into the 1990’s. Maybe they fired all their designers, bought a protractor, and spent the rest of the money on seat belts and crash-test dummies. During this stretch of time Volvo had a reputation for making some of the safest, but most boring cars on the road.
Even though this stodgy stature was well deserved, Volvo’s current XC90 and 40 concepts are anything but humdrum. The 40 concepts are based on a new platform called CMA and while it doesn’t stand for Country Music Awards, I have about the same level of interest in Compact Modular Architecture. What is far more important to me is that the 40.1 and 40.2 concepts look fantastic.
The 1979 concept was called the Volvo Tundra and it is everything you could want from a late 70s design
The designs remind me of a time when Volvo concerned themselves less with torsional rigidity and more with sturdy style. In the late 70s, Volvo employed the now defunct Gruppo Bertone to design a hatchback. I couldn’t help but think about this car when looking at the new Volvo concepts. The 1979 concept was called the Volvo Tundra and it is everything you could want from a late 70s design. The Tundra featured pop-up headlights, full-width tail light bar, and futuristic lines. Even though this car never entered production under a Volvo badge (later becoming the Citroen BX) it displays a commitment to modern design which is evident in the new 40 concepts.
At this point, like all the other automotive sites out there, I should show you a gallery of the new CMA based Volvo 40 concepts. Instead, I’m going to show you a pretty lady in a gold bikini standing next to an even gold-er car. Enjoy.

Volvo shines bright as a star when it makes over-engined sedans and wagons. Remember when they entered the 850 Estate in the British Touring Car Championship? Yeah, that’s why we adore the updated S60 Polestar and V60 Polestar.
Both cars feature a new 367-bhp version of Volvo’s award winning 2.0-liter four-cylinder Drive-E powertrain. If you recall, that’s the turbocharged and supercharged engine, though these Polestars boast a new turbocharger. They are also characterized by four-wheel drive and an eight-speed transmission.
Polestar’s chief operating officer, Niels Möller, describes them as “properly quick.” That’s a good description, very elaborate and full of information. In 2014, Volvo released less than 100 S60 and V60 Polestars, but Volvo says it will produce 1,500 S60 and V60 Polestars annually, upping the limit of these short-run.
So when are you going to race the V60 Polestar, Volvo?

4 It isn’t uncommon for songs to be written about cars. Especially back in the 50s and 60’s where auto manufactures would pay big name bands like, the beach boys, to sing about their products. You’ve probably herd “409” before but now I bring you “59 Volvo”. It was pretty much the “Lamborghini Mercy” of […]

College is a turbulent time in a persons life. I should know, Im in college. You need to be prepared for almost any situation. Moving, road trips, winter, summer and running from the cops after spraypainted the hallowed statue of a school founder outside your student union are all things your car should be expected to be able to do. It should also be reliable and get good gas milage because youre poor and can barely afford filling your tank with anything other than pocket change. God forbid if your car should break down. You might as well sell it for scrap and use the money to buy Ramen and toilet paper. But with all these necessities, is it too much to ask for a little fun from your car? The cars on this list are fun, funky and unique and all are great choices for a college student. If youre on a budget, for $12,000 they will all be cheaper than the cheapest new car in America. In order from most practical to most fun…

Volvo’s new T6 Drive-E engine was named one of Ward’s 10 Best Engines for 2016, the automaker announced in a release. Fear not, the inevitable take-over of the 4-cylinder engine won’t be all bad.
“The T6 Drive-E uses both supercharging and turbocharging, delivering a lively, compelling result,” said Michael Fleiss, vice president powertrain at Volvo Car Group. Editors on the panel praised the 2.0L 4-cylinder engine for delivering “refined output, power and composure of a high-feature 6-cylinder engine.” The engine produces 302bhp and 295lb-ft.
The T6 Drive-E engine can be found in Volvo’s new XC90 SUV and upcoming S90 sedan. If only Volvo would put this new engine in its absurdly beautiful Concept Coupe and Estate cars and put them into production. Please, Volvo?

A 2016 Volvo XC90 equipped with the company’s new Adaptive Cruise Control with Pilot Assist drove Los Angeles mayor Eric Garcetti and Volvo Cars of North America CEO Lex Kerssemakers through the city’s apocalyptic, horrendous rush hour traffic to arrive at the Connected Car Expo this week. The Pilot Assist will be available on all new XC90s and will be able to follow the vehicle ahead in stop-and-go traffic as well as handle acceleration, braking and steering at speeds up to 30mph.
“The Pilot Assist system in the all-new XC90 is just another step toward our vision of a day when drivers will be able to choose between driving themselves on a spirited run along Mulholland Drive, and safely delegating the driving to the car in rush-hour traffic,” said Kerssemakers.
The automaker claims that by 2020, no one should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo car, which is a bold goal to set. In a philosophical Hit and Run, Volvo plans to save every driver by 2020, leaving an XC90 sized hole in 150 years of evolutionary theory.Volvo underestimates the power of dumb. But hey, I’m sure no one is going to complain about being relieved of the duty of driving in rush hour.
