This car was built in 1973 and sold as a 1974 in the UK. It had a body off restoration in the early 90’s before it was shipped to the US and includes an updated galvanized backbone and was repainted from the original factory Ford Tawny Metallic in what appears to be Ferrari Fly Yellow. GM had acquired the company and oversaw these cars so that they were among the very best cars Lotus had ever produced during this time. The +2 is 13″ longer and 1″ wider affording it the distinction of being a true Grand Touring model with long legs and comfortable accommodation for taller drivers, well beyond the delicate nature of the smaller 2 seater Elan model.

The original plates assigned to the car on manufacture still remain intact, as does the original interior and original equipment Phillips radio as documented by the Lotus Certificate of authenticity that comes with the car. An air horn is standard.

Also included; the original Elan +2 driver’s handbook as well as the hard to find supplementary driver’s book for this rare 130/5 edition. The Paul Maddy original loose leaf Service Manual is also included along with many documents dealing with the work performed on the car through the years it was a factory rep car in the UK and the imported to the US. It appears to be one of 5 cars configured this way that are now in the USA because of the right hand drive, 5 speed transmission and Dellorto carb setup. The original jack and another spider rim and tire in the boot are complimented by a special leather wrapped spinoff tool.

Battery is equipped with a manual shutoff and trickle charge cord in the trunk. The original rug and upholstery condition throughout attest to this car’s comfortable life.

The engine is the most powerful twin cam version and has the original 5 speed transmission and has been fitted with a newer auxiliary automatic electric cooling fans. The rarer and more desirable Dellorto carb setup makes this car the one to have if you want it all. Equipped with an outside ambient temp gauge, swing out map light, clock, and glove box light, even the doors have lights on their edges (the bullet bulbs have been removed to allow for car show presentation, but are included). The full array of Smith’s gauges are mounted on a burled dash of exceptional condition.

A new alternator has been fitted as well as a new slave cylinder for the clutch. Typical gas fume issues have been dealt with by running new vent hoses. Gas slosh from the filler cap has been rectified by an internal sleeve with additional rubber gasket. Mileage can easily approach and surpass 30 mpg since the car is so light with it’s rigid all fiberglass body. Light surface rust can be found on some untouched components underneath and there is the typical slight oil sheen and occasional drip that is so typical of the highly regarded twin cam engine. This is a engaging car to drive on long trips or for spirited country lane outings. The right hand drive experience has been a delight to explore during my tenure, and is sure to bring awards, applause, and admiring looks. This is truly a car you will want to own if you don’t want to see anyone else with the same body work on the road or at a car show. You will find all parts and advice to be quite accessible from R&D Enterprises in Quakertown, PA. All of the running gear including the rotoflex couplings is shared by other Lotus cars of this era.

Up for sale is an amazing 1988 Nissan Safari “Granroad” (Y60) high roof with just under 60,000km / 38,000 original miles. VIN: VRGY60601145 So if you want to know what it is like to own an “almost new” 1988 Nissan Safari this will be as close as you can get without the invention of a time machine. This truck is also known as a Patrol in various parts of the world, but being that this truck originated from Japan it was called a Safari there.

This is a RHD vehicle–very easy to drive. This truck has a TD42 4.2l inline 6 cylinder diesel engine (gear timing) that is naturally aspirated (no Turbo). Excellent fuel economy averaging 20 to 23 MPG. It has 24 volt (in series) electrical system with a Caterpillar voltage reducer which was added to run the radio and any other 12 volt item you wish. Recent stereo added with USB and RCA connections for your digital devices. The transmission is a 5 speed manual with 4WD Hi-Low transfer case and automatic front hubs. Factory PTO winch with in cab control. Factory rear limited slip and remote sway bar disconnect. Coil springs and disc brakes all around. Interior and exterior are in amazing condition. Power windows with driver’s door having an automatic up down switch, power door locks and power steering. Overhead Altimeter and Clinometer gauges. A/C and heat work perfectly with factory rear heater unit. Headlight wipers. Rear barn doors. Truck has less than 10k miles Bridgestone Dueler A/T’s and factory gold color rims. LED aux lights. Drivetrain has been serviced and inspected; everything works/looks like new. Absolutely no rust/corrosion in body panels or underside of truck. Includes full shop/service manual as well.

The reputation of the Y60 Safari/ GQ Patrol is well-founded. This is one of a select few vehicles that can cope if circumstances demand unwavering reliability and capability. The 1988 is the epitome of this model’s reputation. This particular Safari is in condition that I would bet does not exist elsewhere in the US. Very similar to the Land Cruisers and Defenders you see in the magazines.

I thought I was going to be keeping this truck for some time so I have a lot of new spare parts that will be included in the sale. Truck comes with extra brake rotors, brake pads, air filters, turn signal lenses, electrical switches, tie rod ends and new front automatic hubs. I also have down a used third row seat that was used with these truck if you want more seating capacity. Just had new pads / rotors installed by Landcruisers NW as well as water pump rebuild and thermostat replacement. This truck is good to go for many many miles. Body has a few scratches from other peoples doors or slight rock chips from my trips over to central Oregon, but otherwise it is in fantastic shape.

Only flaw that I am aware of:

Bent rear bumper and quarter panel on passenger side. Previous owner backed into the car in a parking lot which bent the bumper and broke the tail light. The tail light was replaced with a new one. See photos
Otherwise this truck is ready to go anywhere. Free and clear Oregon title and registration (good till 2018) in my name, legally imported and completely legitimate truck.

Thanks for looking.
