1987 Citroen CX 25 GTi Automatic
This Citroen CX is in really good shape as previous owners took good care of it. I first got the car in Sept. 2011 and drove it to work every other day or so, to weekend outings and car shows around the state, and even won Junior and Senior Awards at AACA National Winter meets, as well as Silver Award at the Winter Park Concours d”Elegance. I grew up with Citroens and I learned to drive in a CX and missed driving one since relocating to the US 20+ years ago. The reason I am selling it is that I got a CX Prestige last year, which is the model I prefer.
I had the Citroen Conservatory at the Citroen Heritage Museum near Paris certify that the car came out of the Citroen factory in January 1986 and was sold new in Belgium. From there it went to Holland for modifications to meet US standards before being shipped to CX Automotive in New Jersey. Build sheet show the original color as Bleu Romantique, with following options: grey interior cloth, air conditioning, automatic transmission, cruise control, sunroof, thermal insulation, clear coat paint. very unusual car in the US.
A copy of the Haynes manual is included with the car, as well as shop manuals and parts diagrams on a USB drive.
The USB drive is loaded with French songs so you can get a beret, a baguette, a bottle of Bordeaux and really play the part driving it!
The good:
Body:
⢠The paint is in excellent condition and shines. The car has been repainted in 2003 by the previous owner. The hood, roof and front fenders were repainted two summers ago after a fender bender.
⢠All rubber weather seals are in excellent condition.
⢠Rear window OEM louvers have been added.
⢠Dark tint on rear windows, medium on front side windows, helps keep the car cooler in summer.
⢠Interior in excellent condition.
⢠No crack on the dash or door panels.
⢠All seats were removed, their covers washed, and a layer of foam added to the top of the old seat foam, seat frames repainted and springs tightened.
⢠Carpet was cleaned.
Engine/Transmission:
⢠Engine runs really well and is completely sorted out.
⢠Injectors were professionally cleaned and tested.
⢠New fuel pump and filter.
⢠New spark plugs.
⢠New OEM air filter.
⢠New camshaft bearing and seal.
⢠All valves adjusted.
⢠Oil filter has been relocated with a kit from its unreachable original location in the back of the engine to the front by the air filter. Makes oil change a breeze!
⢠Cooling system flushed, thermostat replaced, new coolant added. The car does not heat up.
⢠New muffler flexible connection between exhaust manifold and rest of muffler system.
⢠New transmission mount and top motor mount.
⢠Automatic transmission (ZF22) was rebuilt in October 2012 by a professional mechanic expert with the German ZF. OEM repair kit shipped from Europe was used for the rebuild. New trans cooler lines and clamps installed. The reverse stopped working and first gear started slipping due to age of the internal seals. It works well now, shifts up/down through 3 gears without any issue.
⢠While engine was out for transmission repairs, all engine hoses and wires were checked and replaced as needed, and engine bay degreased and cleaned.
Hydraulics:
⢠Hydraulic system was cleaned with specified fluid and refilled with new LHM. All pipes were checked, all brittle return lines replaced with PTFE lines, all leaks fixed.
⢠Car goes up/down through all stages of the height adjustment and automatically as it gets loaded with weight See last 3 pictures)
⢠Rebuilt steering rack with new seals, operates as new, no leaks, steering returns to center and is speed controlled: the faster the car, the stiffer the steering.
⢠New brake rotors and pads on all four wheels. Excellent braking. No ABS on this car.
⢠Four new tires installed (195/70R14) less than 5,000 miles.
⢠AC works really well and blows cold. A shut-off valve was added on the hot water pipe that would otherwise negatively affect the cabin cooling: open in winter, closed in summer.
Electric:
⢠All engine electrical connections were cleaned, greased, connectors replaced if needed.
⢠All wires were checked for cracks, wear, and were either replaced or recovered with heat shrink tubing.
⢠New battery installed 2013.
⢠Alternator replaced, along with large positive cable between it, the starter and the battery in 2013.
⢠Cooling fans operate both on temperature switch and when AC is turned on.
⢠All exterior lights work, front headlights reflectors have been refinished.
⢠Horn works, wiper works.
⢠All interior lights work, front electric windows work (manual rear).
⢠Any light that could be replaced with LED has been. (Alternator dash light needs a normal lamp to close the alternator circuit and initiate charging, LED prevented this and alternator did not charged the battery, learned the hard way at night!) Rear tail lights can’t because of the low amps draw, the light bulb failure system thinks the bulbs have failed.
⢠Remote central lock/engine start disabling system (after market).
⢠New JVC FM/AM radio installed with CD/USB.
The bad:
⢠Cruise control does not work, even with replaced vacuum diaphragm and despite vacuum pump operating. I managed to get it to work twice only for a brief moment. I suspect an electrical issue in the controller.
⢠Sunroof used to leak despite a new seal, so I disconnected the power to the roof switch and sealed it shut with a foam backer rod and black silicon. This is a clean job that can be reversed.
⢠Day/trip odometer not working. Got stuck on zero about a year ago when reset button was pushed. Regular odometer and speedometer works fine.
⢠Mileage on the odometer shows 96,000 but it has been replaced by the previous owner when the original failed at 138,000 miles. Records show this one had 88,000 miles when installed which brings the actual mileage of the car to about146,000.
⢠Rear window defrost does not work, unable to find the fault.
⢠LCD clock does not work.
⢠Small paint bubbling on front side doors at the bottom (so small the AACA judges did not see it).
⢠The wheel lug nuts could use refinishing.
