Porsche ushers in future by referencing past: the new-ish 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman

::cck::88
::/introtext::

For 2016, Porsche has renamed its entry level sports cars, the Boxster and Cayman, as the 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman, referencing the 718 RSK racecar from the 1950s. Moreover, the new 718 Boxster and 718 Cayman will share the old car’s engine layout, a flat-four engine, albeit supplemented with a turbocharger.

In addition to the name and engine changes, the 718 Boxster will been priced higher than the 718 Cayman, to be more in line with the traditional pricing of other coupes and convertibles across the industry. The two cars will be more similar than ever, with their new engine being equally powerful in both cars, as well as other visual and technical similarities.

After years of slowly and deliberately moving away from numeric names, it’s a nice change of pace knowing that people will stop confusing Porsche’s mid-engined sports car with their full-sized suburban-sheikh SUV. It will be much more convenient to distinguish the new 718 from the old 987 and 986 with the new name. And you’ll know exactly where it falls in the lineup with Porsche’s other current sports car, the 991 911, which succeeded the 997; which is far superior to the previous 996, the terrible successor to the 993 (the last of the air-cooled greats). But, even the mighty 993 has nothing on the legendary 930 or 965. The 718 will join the ranks of other great four-cylinder Porsches in addition to the original 718, including the 914, 924, 944, 951, and 968. See Porsche? Numbers are way easier to understand.

But the most important news is that Porsche’s best car is now Porsche’s cheapest car. The 718 Cayman is the driver’s Porsche, and will be cheaply available for your local investment account manager to snap oversteer into your neighbor’s mailbox in a torrent of four-cylinder, turbocharged, liquid-cooled fury.

This 911SC is a rare find. It’s a highly original car that has no modifications.
Perfect color combination with Silver Metallic paint on original dark blue in perfect condition leather seats. The Dashboard and steering wheel have no signs of ever being exposed to sun in its near new condition. Everything works like new including the sunroof (no leaks), all gauges, lights (both interior & exterior), horn, ac, radio, electric antenna, and everything else.
Car was recently serviced and inspected at Simonson’s Foreign Car Service and runs perfect.

This 911SC is completely dry underneath and has no smoke on start up. It idles beautifully and has smooth, strong power up to redline. The shifts are direct and precise and the clutch is strong.

Driving this car is an experience like no other, corners like on rails….

Inside, this 911, is amazing. There are NO cracks in the dash, door panels, or door caps. Even the shift knob looks better than it should. The gages are crystal clear with no fading and all function perfectly. This one really defys it’s age in every way. It shows how well these cars hold up when they are original and properly maintained. Even the AC is original in this car.

We do have the original sales invoice, keys, and toolkit for this 911SC. We also have extensive service history that we can email upon request. We also have a clean Car Fax available. Additional photos are also available.

It is widely knows that air cooled Porsche 911’s are rapidly increasing in value. Hagertry price guide shows this car should be selling for up to $62,900, We are asking FAR less than that for ours. Buyers who paid top dollar for their cars a year ago, are now in an equity position. This is an opportunity to have that same advantage. There is nothing else like a great condition air cooled Porsche and in this market, you can have a toy that will earn you money.

The only problems with this great German masterpiece is some of the paint is in need of repair as well as the rear interior rear deck and interior weather stripping.

Many additional photos, car fax, and records available upon request to prospective buyers.
Best offer / no low ballers….. Tom Cruise said it best: “Porsche, there is no substitute!”

This very clean and original 930 Turbo looks beautiful from front to back, and runs and drives essentially as new. This car is completely original and has never had any paint work. I have run a paint meter on the entire car confirming the paint thickness varying from 5.0 mils to 5.5 mils on the entire vehicle which was within factory Porsche painting standards in 1989. The exterior of this Turbo is in excellent condition from front to rear, with no dings, dents or notable road wear.  It has a perfect Carfax report, and the glass, lights, lenses and paint are in excellent condition all around.  The Fuch alloy wheels are clean and nice, and the tires are brand new as seen on the pictures. The interior is also in excellent shape, with expanses of leather and a wide assortment of luxury and safety features such as power leather seats, power windows, power locks, power mirrors, power sunroof, and a modern CD player.  The trim and panels are clean all around, and the carpet is nice and fresh with no soiling.  The inside of this car is an extremely comfortable place to be. Mechanically, you will find nowhere to fault this well-made 930 Turbo, and the potent 3.3 Liter Turbo motor fires right to life, delivering an abundance of power across the rev band.  The G50 hydralic 5 speed manual transmission shifts flawlessly, and the brakes and suspension are in excellent shape. It is an absolute treat to drive or ride in this car. The original owner of this 1985 Porsche Turbo bought the car new in Germany. He then toured throughout Germany before having it shipped back to his home in California. The car was only driven about 7,500 miles and was then stored in the owners garage for the next 12 years. His friend noticed the car sitting in his Garage and started to ask questions about it. When he learned more about the car’s originality and extremely low mileage he decided to buy it. He enjoyed the car for about 1000 miles and in 2011 he sold it to a buyer in Florida. The next owner had the car for 3 years driving it only about 1500 miles before selling it back to California.

As Porsche Turbos were being banned from the United States, Porsche was pushing as many 930s on the boat in 1979 all the way until the last day of the year. The U.S. dealers were scrambling to get their hands on as many as possible as the demand was huge. The domestic market feared that the 930 would never come back. Six years later, 930s were once again arriving here but they were much different cars. The smog law restrictions choked the life out of them and they seemed to be more of a GT car than a direct descendent of the 935.

This example didn’t quite make the boat and turned out to be one of the very few Turbos produced in 1980 (lowest production year in the model history outside of the 1975 model). The total run for the world was only 840 units. It was ordered with the following options:

Air conditioning
Rear wiper
Power windows
Blaupunkt radio with rear speakers

It was originally sold as a German delivered Porsche where it only lived for 4-years before being imported to the U.S. We have all the documents from new including service receipts and proper EPA/DOT documents. A physician in Ohio imported the car and took delivery on April 17th, 1984 with 1,070 miles. He then sold it to a neighbor on April 10th, 1987 with 10,000 miles. This owner used it as a daily driver for a little over 3-years before selling it on November 29th, 1990 to another mutual friend with 32,000 miles.

This owner kept the car the longest. He had it until May 27th, 2011 when he sold it with 52,000 miles. During this owner’s care, he had a full engine rebuild performed at 40,000 miles (in the early 1990’s). The receipts show a full drivetrain restoration.

The next owner lived in Arizona and only kept the car for a few years and barely drove it. He sold it on August 8th, 2014 with 53,500 miles.

Because the car sat for many years after the rebuild with very little use, some oil leaks began to show up. The current owner is a perfectionist and wanted this Turbo to be mechanically sound and drive properly. He hired a local, well-respected Porsche specialist to go through the entire motor again. He invested over $26,000 in the following repairs/services:

Remove engine and transmission
Fresh top-end rebuild
New clutch kit/refinish flywheel
New rings
New head studs (APR)
Reconditioned the cylinder heads, rocker arms, and camshafts
Refinished the original Fuch wheels
New tires

Furthermore, this 930 came to this owner with a Kolken turbo, B&B Tri-Flo exhaust, short shift kit, Aire-Tek induction system, Weltmeister strut brace, Euro RS front and rear bumpers, and a front bumper mounted RSR-style oil cooler. Dyno results show nearly 300hp at the rear wheels. Also, this 930 doesn’t leak a drop of oil.

Not only do we have all the importation documentation, we have all the records verifying ownership history and mileage.

The exterior of this 930 is excellent. The paint looks very good for its age with minimal signs of wear. It was repainted sometime ago due to the typical clear coat issues Porsche had with their early metallic paints. It was obviously a quality glass out job as there is no overspray on the rubber. We believe they used the original Glasurit code paint as well. The original anodized window trim looks great and it is refreshing to see no one has painted them black. All the glass is original except for a newer windscreen. The original factory Fuchs have recently been restored and wear new tires.

The interior is equally nice and appears to be all-original. The leather seats are in nice shape with just some minor wear on the driver exit bolsters. The factory green carpet is well preserved and not stained or torn. The door panels and pockets look great with some minor warping of the door pocket flaps. The original leather dash has no cracks, but is showing some minor shrinkage up against the windscreen. The headliner is all original as well and showing just some minor wear near the corners around c-pillars. . .very minor. All the gauges work properly including the clock and Blaupunkt radio. The switches to the mirrors work fine. The A/C was just dye tested and recharged. It blows cold.

All in all, this is an excellent example of a very rare color combination Porsche 930.

Hands down, this generation 930s (early intercooled models) is my favorite. They are the pure driver’s turbo. They embody the myth of these cars. They are raw, fast, and fun. Yet, they can still be docile enough to sit in traffic (love the tall 1st gear on these cars). It is clear this turbo has been built and tuned properly. It’s got enormous power on tap and at first surprises you a bit. But, it’s not so violent that you get nauseous on the way to work. The steering feels so light and incredible responsive. These early intercooled turbos are very nimble. Of course, the brakes are the best in the world. They have insane retina detaching power that are only limited by the traction of the tires. This 930 would have been (in my eyes) the perfect car to do a road trip in for Rennsport Reunion in Monterey. Of course, Targa Baja California is around the corner and I think this would be a blast on that vintage tour.

Oregon registration is current and good to March 2017. It also recently passed the Oregon emissions/smog test. It was registered and smog checked in California up until 2 months ago. We recently ran it through CA smog and it passed with flying colors, but they wouldn’t issue a certificate because we need the BAR sticker which was removed when the car was painted. We have an appointment to get a new sticker shortly.

This 930 comes with its original jack, space saver spare, tool kit, owners manual, and extensive receipts/history.

1993 Porsche 911 RS America

1993 Porsche 911VIN: WP0AB2961PS418096

odometer: 215000
title status: clean
transmission: manual

$78700

DESCRIPTION
The 1993 RS America was a lightened, limited edition, performance version of the venerable Porsche 911 to commemorated the 20th Anniversary and spirit of the original 1973 Carrera RS.

According to Porsche Cars North America, as published in the Porsche fact book for 1993
:The RS America is a new derivative of the Carrera 2 for drivers who demand an even higher level of feedback – feedback so detailed, so precise that it usually is found only in racing cars. The designation of RS, German for Renn Sport or Race Sport, is traditionally reserved for the highest performance Porsches. In a Porsche RS model, refinements in the suspension, steering, wheels and tires all work in combination with perfectly coordinated weight reduction to create a dramatically different driving feel.

This 1993 Porsche 911 964 RS America is a factory white/black example with following options, Limited Slip and Air Conditioning. This is an early production # 96 of the first 100 made. The car is fundamentally stock and looks fantastic with the M030 sport suspension package, which included the factory installed running gear from the 911 C2 Turbo, leading to higher performance limits. The Turbo’s progressively wound coil springs, larger diameter front stabilizer bar, and upgraded shock absorbers were also standard equipment for the RS America, as were 17 diameter C2 Turbo wheels. The RSA rims were 7 wide on the front and 8 wide on the rear (as opposed to the 7 wide front and 9 wide rear wheels of the C2 Turbo).

Having spent all of it life in the San Francisco Bay Area, the condition reflects that of a consistently well cared for example. An additional bonus is that last 4 owners being were PCA members and it was driven an average of just under 10000 miles per year. The last owner and his RS were featured in the attached video at a PCA Golden Gate Region event https://youtu.be/kC3FPSd9ZKI. Under his ownership and as well as previous owners, careful and consistent maintenance has been the rule in in how this car was cared for.

Rebuilt Engine; Our service dept shop foreman has been up and done this engine with a fine-tooth-comb and all indications are that the engine was rebuilt by a reputable shop as every nut and washer is as it should be. Though we without receipts we done know when or who did the work. Moreover cylinder leak down variation was no more that 4% from cylinder to cylinder, which is consistent with a rebuilt engine.(Cylinder Leak down results are 8%, 4%, 6%, 4%, 4%, 6% Compression test also revealed a variation of no more than 3% from cylinder to cylinder with 160-165 on all cylinders. With the above results, Its truly unlikely that of all Porsche engines, that a 964 engine could have over 200k miles on it and not been rebuilt

The suspension has been upgraded with shocks, springs, bushings and sway bars. Additional maintenance items have been replace such as windshield, steering rack, wheels refinished, rebuilt brake calipers, serviced axles, new battery.

Transmission shifts fine into all gears and clutch feel is great with no slippage or jittering

The paint and body is in excellent condition with no evidence of anything more that maintenance type paint work though front bumper was replaced at some point. We found no sign of any major body repairs or frame damage anywhere on or under the car

1986 Porsche 911 Carrera: fresh valve job and syncros!

Lovely Iris Blue over camel tan interior this 1986 Porsche 911 has just recently received a comprehensive service including new valves and guides and head studs plus replaced 1st and 2nd gear syncros. This 911 runs perfectly! Records back to 1993 and clean CarFax.

The exterior of the car shows quite well as it received a full respray to original color roughly nine years back. The paint quality is good but does show some stone chips on the nose and mirrors. Luster is good but there are some small blemished areas and some slight scratches befitting its age and use; call it very nice driver level. Rubber widow and trim excellent. The interior is quite nice showcased by all original leather seats in stunning condition as they have been covered since the current owner bought the 911. Dash has slight warping and headliner has slight discoloration at the sunroof, carpet and mats very nice as is glass and door panels. Instruments are clear. Mechanically the car runs very strong! No smoke on startup (attributed to new guides.) Brakes all bled and very firm plus excellent Continental tires showing modest wear. Fuchs are correct and nice. The partial power seat, mirrors, widows and sun roof work smoothly. AC is in-op and has not been diagnosed. Transmission is excellent no gronch at all and linkage clearly has new and correct bushings. Clutch was replaced about 7k miles ago; bite is excellent and pedal is smooth. The underside of car is very tidy; no rust! The car has 127900 miles. All in all a very nice driver-plus level 911 with $10k in recent service.

This is another private party consignment for sale by Driveline a licensed dealership. PPI inspections welcome. CA Title and SMOG certificate in hand. Please call 650-261-1777 to see this 911.

Motorcar Studio is pleased to offer this 1990 Porsche 911 Carrera 2 coupe (964). Bone stock and unmolested, two Atlanta owners from new, 135k miles. Black over tan leather interior.

Purchased new at Jim Ellis Porsche and serviced there for most of its life. Largely original paint in very good condition. Original interior is attractive and clean, dash and steering wheel are particularly nice, some wear on passenger door pocket and driver’s “dead pedal” carpet. Books, tools, air pump, records, original Blaupunkt.

Top end rebuild in ’07 at 125k miles, fresh oil service and battery. Runs and drives well and all gauges and electricals are working properly. We’re particularly fond of 964s around here and when you take out the less desirable Cabs, Tips and C4s you aren’t left with very many C2 manual transmission coupes such as this one.

1992 Porsche 911 964 Turbo Porsche Type 965 55487 Miles- Very Low We are proud to offer for sale this exceptional 965 Turbo premium built sports car. These Porsches were built in very limited quantity, only 3600 965 3.3 Turbos were built. This is an original Black car and retains most of its original paint, and has never been crashed, and has zero rust issues. This car has had extensive modifications to make it the ultimate street or track weapon, but retains the ability to be driven on the street and to the track day events. Rothsport, a very well known Porsche performance shop, has done all the recent service work and performance upgrades. It makes all the right noises, the gearbox is amazing, the brakes are like dropping an anchor, and the suspension is firm yet amazingly compliant. As this car weighs 2600 lbs and makes 400hp it is not for the timid! Get it pointed in the right direction and pull the trigger, I promise you will love it The Full Safety Roll Cage was built to club race standards. It is fully welded and padded, very professional and of proper quality. It features removable X-Bar door structures. These can be removed for street driving or installed for DE or Club events, this very nice feature to make this car truly dual purpose. The door s have been gutted for light weight and additional room for roll cage. You could easily have a second set of doors with windows if you wanted, they would just bolt on. The suspension is very compliant and easy to live with, especially for a track set up. It is all fully adjustable for dampening and ride height. It does come with the GT2 Evo High blade wing as well. It really makes the car look wild! It has just had a full service and checked out, so it is ready to go. The seats are on adjustable tracks, making it easy for any driver to get the right position.
